Thank you so much...

Thank you so much for sharing the cottage and Shipping Point Farm. Your love of this land and the tidewater are clear in every moment Susan and I have spent at the cottage... and your thoughtfulness and hospitality are equally vivid.

Every time I thought to want something, from a corkscrew to a toaster, or a bread knife to a toaster, it turned out to be in the kitchen. As an enthusiastic cook, I can tell you that's rare in a rental kitchen! They may be silly little things, but they speak to your generosity as hosts, no less than the spectacular, delicious, tomatoes.  Those are the best I've ever tasted, and this from a woman who grew up with New Jersey beefsteak tomatoes, and shopped for produce in France!

Even more, though, are the charms of the wildlife. We watched ospreys cruise the water in the evening - one landed in a tree close by and I saw him eat his catch - imagine, fish in trees.  We saw a great blue heron roust a competitor from his patch, sending him flying through along with the squirrels who have mastered the bird feeder. Finally, a found a luna moth on the lawn, only the second I've ever seen outside of pictures.

Susan and I have been friends for 41 years, but since I left Boston 12 years ago, we've rarely been able to spend casual, intense time together.  The cottage was a lovely way to do that.  I look forward to sharing it with my husband.

Thank you Karen.
