The author of the following poem is unknown, but is part of the
Colton collection. We chose to share it as it speaks directly of the
cottage and the beauty visitors find here.

Out in the countryside of
Southern Maryland
Was a little white house.
And surrounding the house was
clear, blue water in which the
crabs swam

And one day the crabs
Crawled to the land and to the
Doorway of the little white house
And they peered inside and saw
Ann Ophelia unpacking the lunch
From the little red basket.
